Abstract. 134 people with different periods of residence in the Murghab village of the Eastern Pamir -3660 meters above sea level were surveyed: up to 4 months; 6-8 months; 10-12 months, 18 months and more. The main statistical and integral indicators of heart rate variability (HRV) were analyzed. We have identified ranges of changes in the indices of HRV, which characterize the adequacy of human adaptation to high-altitude hypoxia with prediction of disadaptation phenomena. It was noted that the HRV indicators quantitatively reflect the person’s adaptive abilities to great heights and can be used to predict the optimal duration of a person’s life without compromising his health. For each indicator, their ranges are noted, which depend on the duration of stay in the height and can be used to assess the adaptation phase (emergency, equalizing, stable) and predict prenosological or premorbid states of the body. By changing the indices of HRV, it is possible to establish the state of the autonomic nervous system parts, which depends on the duration of their stay at height. It has been established that the preservation of sympathicotonia in people with a long period of residence at a height (12 months or more) is a sign of inadequate adaptation and their further stay at a height can cause a disturbance of the functional systems of the body.

Key words: heart rate variability, emergency phase of adaptation, stable phase of adaptation, high mountain hypoxia, disadaptation, prenosological state, sympathicotonia.
